For everybody involved, employee pricing deals are truly stupid.

Let’s run through the checklist...

Customers...
Suddenly have access to a tier of said manufacturers employee discounts. Decent deal for sure, but to be honest the fact that these discounts are necessary for these OEMs to move vehicles is telling.

Employees...
You mean to tell us that one of the few unique benefits we get for working for an OEM suddenly means jack?...

Dealers...
Suddenly are required to move an excess volume of vehicles, which they didn’t want to stock in the first place, at anywhere from a severe reduction in margin to, at worst, a minor loss

So OEMs, for god-sake stop with this shitty gimmick. Just manage your dealer stock more accurately & maybe try listening  to them every once in a while...

The last two companies I’ve worked for offered GM “ supplier discounts”, despite not being suppliers to GM.

It’s all a gimmick to make you feel like you’re getting the insider deal, instead of just pricing the damn car correctly to begin with.

Exactly. They just cycle trough gimmicky names to make them sound like fresh deals.

I work for the U.K. arm of walmart and get the Partner discount on GM (now just Vauxhall) products of about 10-15% off, but last two times I walked into Skoda they’ve given me £5,000 and 6,000 discount on a £26,500 and a 27,500 car without asking, hell when I did ask, she said, ‘we’ve taken £5,500 off this car’, I shut up after that. Lol.

P.S. I still love the 'panda clap' you have as your profile picture.

I’m surprised the manufacturers don’t use the sale names of other manufacturers.

“Drive away with a Ford during this Toyotathon!"

My MIL’s father worked for GM back in the day, and she received a discount on GM products that was much larger than anything I’ve ever seen advertised.

I found that the Costco discount was kind of a joke as well.

Noticed that while I was working with Ford, they’d give the “friends” employee discount instead of the family/direct discount (something like 50-70% more usually)

Ford commercials are too busy saying things like “Considering Tundra? The 2019 F150 is better where it matters most.” That one was playing so often on YouTube for a while.
